Just in case you're not "in the know", there's been a large-scale debate in the evangelical church especially in recent years (though its roots can be traced to earlier in the 20th century) about what exactly defines the "Gospel" and what the essence of God's work here on earth is.

Why are many in the evangelical tradition so reluctant to use certain words when doing evangelism/discipleship? We act like there's a check-list of terms we must mark up, and a black-list to avoid, when witnessing to someone or preaching from the pulpit. Do you meet with Christians for worship, fellowship, and instruction outside of your weekend or midweek service? Do you do it regularly? With relatively the same people? If not, you're missing out on a dynamic that is so incredibly conducive to spiritual growth! I'm talking about the concept of small groups (some churches call them community groups, connect groups etc.)

Ethnicity in local churches is a beautiful thing. A multi-racial blend of people groups assembling together to worship is powerful. It speaks of God's sovereignty. It reveals his accessibility, his relationality...his love.
